Global Access Email Hosting

Our PREMIUM PLAN includes 5 global access email accounts and an unlimited number of onboard email accounts. Global access accounts synchronize a GCS mailbox with a corresponding onboard mailbox so that messages can be retrieved on or off the vessel and no messages are ever missed. Global access accounts are typically setup for the Captain and other key crewmembers.

The STANDARD PLAN includes 1 global access email account and five additional onboard accounts.

The GCS mail server updates virus definitions on a daily basis and scans all messages for viruses. Spam filtering and automatic email attachment compression are provided at no extra charge. We highly recommend that clients take advantage of filtering and compression, as this can dramatically cut down on email volume and download sizes at the boat and result in significant cost savings when using expensive satellite connections. Optional software can also be installed on each client computer or on an onboard Exchange server to automatically decompress received messages and compress outbound mail.

Either plan can be configured to work with most email clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, etc.), a simple onboard email gateway, or an onboard Microsoft Exchange email server. Microsoft Exchange provides centralized email storage as well as shared vessel schedules, contacts, and task lists. The centralized Exchange email database allows access to personal email folders and shared folders from any workstation on the network.

GCS has perfected the use of MS Outlook offline folders, so that personal folders and any or all of the shared Exchange folders can also be made available to a disconnected notebook computer (e.g., when you leave the boat with your notebook computer). Any changes made while offline (adding a new contact, for example) are automatically synchronized back to the Exchange server when the computer is reconnected to the network. The simple email gateway sends/retrieves mail for all accounts on a scheduled basis or on demand, but does not have the added features of Microsoft Exchange.
